High School Thesis Project: La fusione dell'intelligenza umana ed artificiale: i nuovi orizzonti della tecnologia nella visionaria proposta di Elon Musk
During the last year of High School I started learning C# to use it with Unity 3D.
For the final exam, as independent research project to fulfill my graduation requirement I proposed an AR App developed using Vuforia.
The main topic of my thesis was an analysis of some aspects of the evolution of humanity using technology analyzing the vision of Elon Musk.It talks about the challenges Elon musk is facing with his companies (Tesla, Space X, Neuralink, OpenAI) exploring all the potential we have with these new technologies.
The app I developed works by scanning the pages of my writing as markers, it shows photo, video and multimedia content as additional content for the paper.
The thesis is completely in Italian as I graduated from high school in Italy with a grade of 95/100.
Why an AR App? First Experience
I discovered the fascinating world of Augmented Reality during my working experience at Red Frog Digital (Salford).
During those weeks I took my first steps in developing apps. Thanks to my mentor, I started learning principles of programming using C# and basics of design and development using Unity 3D. Then I continue improving my skills following online tutorials in order to reach such a confidence to create my first AR APP.
The Potential for Augmented Reality
Augmented Reality apps have a huge potential but they aren't still well known or developed. AR is a new technology that could be used in infinite ways e.g. for shopping(IKEA AR Catalogue, Furniture Visualizer, IBM Shopping App), gaming (Pokemon Go and similar games), navigation system for the drivers.
Even using a simple app that shows multimedia content as support is really useful to make a paper more interactive and easy to understand. Studies say that people are more likely to remember content with images and video rather than text. So readers will learn the content faster and in a better way going more in deep adding details in a non boring way.
How to use the App
The project contains two folders, one containing the app (.apk, Android only) alongside the thesis (.pdf) used as a marker and the other containing the source code of the Unity3D project.
To use the app ("tesina_Galassi.apk"), you'll have to install it first, so download it and then open it.
When opening the app to install it, your phone would warn you that it is blocking the installation of an app from an unknown source:
Do not worry at all, the app is 100% virus safe and the only thing you have to do is allow installation of non official apps going to the security settings of your phone.

Than the installation can go on :
Once installed the app will use your external camera to look for a marker and when found using the thesis pages.
